Dog owners know the drill: leash in one hand, plastic bag in the other, and the hope that cleanup goes smoothly. Inventor Craig M. Farquharson set out to end that routine with the PoochPort, a patent-pending smart wearable waste-collection system that automates the entire process from capture to disposal.

The PoochPort replaces plastic bags with a biodegradable, odor-controlled pouch that snaps onto a comfortable, adjustable harness. A rear mounting ring with a soft elastomeric seal positions the pouch directly behind the dog, capturing waste on contact without any manual intervention. The result is a completely hands-free experience for the owner and a comfortable fit for the dog.

What sets the PoochPort apart from conventional diapers and collection devices is its integrated smart-sensor module. A miniature load cell and moisture sensor continuously monitor the pouch. When waste weight or moisture hits a preset threshold, a low-power Bluetooth chip transmits a real-time alert”Bag Full” or “Moisture Detected”straight to the owner’s smartphone through a companion app. Optional cloud connectivity enables remote monitoring, usage history, and predictive replacement reminders.

The system is designed for everyday practicality. Snap-fit pouches swap in seconds without removing the harness. The sensor module detaches for recharging or cleaning. Quick-release buckles and padded straps accommodate dogs of all breeds and sizes, and a tail-clearance channel preserves natural movement. Every pouch is made from compostable materials, offering a meaningful reduction in the billions of plastic pet-waste bags sent to landfills each year.
