Story Behind the Invention
A garage is one of the most useful spaces in a home a workshop, a storage room, a project space, a refuge. But it comes with a trade-off: when the door goes up, so does your privacy. The street can see in. Neighbors can see in. Everyone passing by can see exactly what you’re doing, what you own, and what you’re working on. The only solution most people know is to close the door and lose the light, the airflow, and the freedom that made the open garage appealing in the first place.Roberto Vega of Templeton, California decided there had to be a better way.The Garpri short for Garage Privacy is a sliding curtain system built specifically for the garage environment. It mounts to the wall on both sides of the garage opening, positioned in front of the door track so it doesn’t interfere with the mechanism at all. The curtain is split down the center to work around the garage door’s overhead system, which means the door can still go up and come down freely regardless of whether the curtain is open or closed. When Roberto wants privacy, he slides the curtains shut. When he wants them open, he slides them back. The garage door operates exactly as it always has.It is a deceptively simple idea a curtain designed with the precision that a garage environment demands. No modifications to the existing door. No hardware conflicts. No compromises. Just privacy when you want it and visibility when you don’t.With a design patent application on file with the USPTO (Application No. 30/042,165, Docket VE-7059, filed through Gugliotta & Gugliotta), the Garpri is patent pending and ready for the manufacturers and retailers who serve the millions of homeowners who have always wanted this and never had it.
