Story Behind the Invention
Inventor Cindy L. Ostrowski, of central Wisconsin, has created a pair of jeans designed to minimize the options inmates have to conceal life-threatening contraband.
As a 21-year veteran of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, Cindy has seen a lot of things, notably a lockdown that occurred due to multiple drug overdoses. After these tragedies, belt loops and pockets were removed from all provided prison uniforms in an effort to stop contraband from coming in. State-provided belts were also removed from the institution. This inspired Cindy to design pocket-less jeans without belt loops, because no pockets or belt loops means less of an opportunity to conceal drugs, drug paraphernalia, weapons, and more.
The pants are worn as a standard pair of jeans and have been designed with decorative stitching to simulate pockets. The design offers comfort consideration and a relaxed fit style for men, with a bootcut style for women.
