Story Behind the Invention
Car floor mats take a beating. Dirt, mud, gravel, leaves, sand they come in with every pair of shoes and settle into the mat where they stay. The standard solution has not changed in decades: pull the mat out, take it somewhere you don’t mind making a mess, shake it hard, and put it back. It works barely and nobody enjoys doing it. Joseph J. Tarrazi of Jersey City, New Jersey decided there had to be a better way. What Joseph built is the Auto Clean Floormat an electrically powered floor mat designed to clean itself. The mat’s perimeter features a gradual slope that channels dirt and debris inward toward a series of built-in collection grills running across the surface. When the mat is activated, the electric mechanism goes to work moving debris through the grills and into a collection area where it can be easily cleared, without ever pulling the mat from the vehicle. The design accounts for the full footprint of a standard vehicle floor well, and the power cord keeps it simple: plug in and let it run.The engineering behind it is precise. The slope is calibrated to direct debris consistently without bunching or shifting. The grill spacing is designed to catch what matters without interfering with normal use. It is a mat that does what a mat should do and then takes care of itself. With a utility patent application on file with the USPTO (Application No. 19/243,110), the Auto Clean Floormat is patent pending and ready for the manufacturing partners who can bring it to the millions of drivers who would never go back to shaking a mat by hand again.
