Story Behind the Invention

Anyone who has operated a zero turn mower on anything other than flat, open ground knows the feeling the mower drifts, the front castors spin freely and offer no help, and suddenly you are either sliding toward a ditch or digging in and stuck. Dean Snider knew that feeling well.

After years of dealing with the limitations of conventional zero turn mowers on slopes, slick surfaces, and terrain near waterways and ditches, Dean set out to find a real solution not a workaround, but an engineered fix. The result was a patented steering system that gives the operator direct control over the front castor wheels, the part of the mower that standard designs completely ignore.

Where other zero turn mowers leave the front castors to spin freely and go wherever the terrain takes them, Dean’s Selective Steering System lets the operator engage and direct those castors on demand. That means positive control when going across a slope, confidence when cutting close to a ditch, and when the inevitable happens a way to actually steer the mower back out when it gets stuck.

Dean built a working prototype and put it to the test, proving out the concept in the real-world conditions that inspired it. No other zero turn mower on the market offers this kind of front castor control. Dean’s invention is patented and ready for the right manufacturing or licensing partner to bring it to the operators who need it most.
