Story Behind the Invention

Inventor Nathaniel Cave of Neptune, NJ has developed a portable, adjustable sun shade that clamps onto a cornhole board to block the glare that makes it hard to see the holes.

Nathaniel, an avid cornhole player, knew the frustration of a sunny afternoon turning into a squinting match against the glare bouncing off the boards. Existing umbrellas and canopies were too bulky to haul to a tailgate or backyard tournament, and none of them were built to attach directly to a cornhole board or hold steady over the target. Determined to find a fix, Nathaniel set out to design a shade made specifically for the game he loves – and now the Sun Blocker Shield is ready for market!

But how does it work? A sturdy clamp secures the Sun Blocker Shield to the rear legs of a standard cornhole board, while a set of spiked support legs anchors the base to grass, dirt, or sand. A telescoping extender rod lets players fine-tune how close or far the shade sits from the board, and an adjustable, pivoting arm raises the shade panel up to about 9 feet high and angles it directly over the playing surface to eliminate glare. The shade panel is available in a variety of materials, including breathable, weather-resistant, and reflective fabrics, and can be custom printed with team logos, flags, or advertising. When not in use for shade, the panel can even be angled to reflect sunlight toward a nearby lounge chair for tanning. Lightweight and collapsible, the entire assembly folds down to fit in a shoulder bag, making it easy to bring along to any tailgate, backyard game night, or tournament.
