Story Behind the Invention
Inventor Peter Elliott of Canada has created a lifting device for pontoon boats that allows those with limited mobility to get on and off the deck without assistance.
The idea was born after being introduced to a couple that always wanted a pontoon boat, but with the husband in a wheelchair, they felt they couldnt have one. Peter knew there had to be a way to give him, and other boating enthusiasts with limited mobility, the freedom to own one. In turn, he developed The Side Arm!
This is a watercraft-mounted personal lifting device that features a remotely-operated arm that is in mechanical communication with a motor at the first end and a platform at the second end. Upon activation, the arm will selectively raise or lower to level the platform. The platform may be utilized while the boat is on a transport trailer, docked, or anchored. A wheelchair user will then have the freedom to safely enter or exit a pontoon boat. No help needed!
